Kertisa Amos scored a game-high 26 points Tuesday night as Centennial picked up 58-47 non-district win at Red Oak in girls basketball.

The Lady Spartans held a 24-16 lead at halftime, then held on to win even as the Lady Hawks outscored them 36-31 in the second half. Zassmine Birdwell scored eight points and Ne’Khyria Rogers tallied seven points.

“Tonight there were moments of greatness and moments where we struggled, so we will be working on being more consistent on both ends of the floor for four quarters,” Centennial coach Valerie Wootan said.

The Lady Spartans open play today at the Van Griffifth Kia Tournament in Granbury which runs through Saturday. Centennial will play two pool games Thursday against Weatherford at 11:30 a.m. and Grandview at 7 p.m. The event will serve as a final tune-up for District 9-5A which opens Tuesday when Centennial hosts Joshua at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Spartans next game is a 9-5A meeting at Everman.

“We are excited about the opportunity the tournament gives us to work on things for district and to continue to gel.”
