Lady Spartans run-rule Crowley
Playing a day early didn’t seem to bother Centennial’s softball team Monday night.
In hopes of beating the rain, the Lady Spartans played Crowley at home a day early and run-ruled the Lady Eagles, 11-1, behind the four-hit pitching of Serena Bersuch.
Bersuch struck out nine, walked two and allowed one run in six innings of work.
Cenntennial (8-8, 6-2) is tied with Burleson and Joshua for second-place. The Lady Spartans host Cleburne tonight and host Arlington Seguin Tuesday.
“Our losses in district play have come from us beating ourselves with mental and physical errors,” Centennial coach Shannon Sullivan said. “We have done a great job of shoring those up the last two games. This second half of district needs to be about minimizing errors, maximizing opportunities, winning each inning and being consistent with executing the game.”
The Lady Spartans scored multiple runs in each of the first three innings.
Centennial all but put the game away in the first inning with a five-run outburst. Crowley hurler McKenzie Hall helped things along by hitting three batters.
The Lady Spartans loaded the bases on consecutive singles from Kylee Gowin, Laney Vaughn, and Gracie Morton. With one-out, Reagan Ellison doubled home a pair of runs. Karter Hill followed with a single to load the bases.
Hall then hit Samantha Barker, Mac Harshbarger and Casey Hendrixson to force in a run and give the Lady Spartans a 5-0 advantage.
In the second inning, Mackenzie Law hit a solo home run to left field and Ellison tripled and then scored when Hill reached base on an error. The Lady Spartans added two runs in the third inning when Harshbarger and Hendrixson reached on back-to-back errors. Gowin gave the Centennial a 9-0 lead with a two-run single to center.
The Lady Spartans completed the run-rule win in the sixth by scoring a pair of runs. Gowin brought home Madison Thurman with an RBI-single and Carly Eller singled in a run.

The Lady Spartans got doubles from Samantha Baker, Reagan Ellison, and Laney Vaughn.
Samantha Baker, Casey Hendrixson, and Hill finished with two hits each. Baker and Hill had two RBI each. Gracie Morton also had an RBI.
