Lady Spartans still have time to work things out

Centennial’s volleyball team learned some lessons over the weekend against some top competition at the Arlington Showcase.

Lady Spartans coach Jessica Ransom said her team is trying to figure out how to put things together.

One of those things is being able to account for their own points in a match.

“We have to earn more points with the things we do,” Ransom said. “Rather than relying on our opponents to make mistakes.”

Ransom said she also wants to see her squad stop foes from making long scoring runs. There were just too many times an opponent scored three or more points in a row over the week.

The Lady Spartans (9-16) posted a 1-2 mark during pool play Friday at tournament. Centennial defeated Lake Worth, 25-14, 25-7, 25-11, but fell to Mansfield Timberview, 26-24, 25-23, 11-25, 25-21, and

Arlington Lamar, 25-16, 25-19, 25-13. On Saturday, the Lady Spartans lost to Hurst L.D. Bell, 18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-20.

With tournament play over, Centennial started its final three match schedule before opening District 9-5A play.

The Lady Spartans got on track Tuesday night with a 25-13, 25-20, 19-25, 19-25, 15-12 win at White Settlement Brewer Tuesday night.

Centennial hosts Grandview Friday and plays Tuesday at Mansfield before starting 9-5A play at home Sept. 8 against Everman.

“Hopefully these next three games will allow us to work on all the little things and put them together in time for district play to begin,” Ransom said.
