Spartans blank Steers
EVERMAN — The first trip to the baseball playoffs in 60 years was a short one for Fort Worth North Side.
The Steers ran into a buzz saw in their best-of -three Class 5A Region I bi-district playoff series as Centennial swept them by 10-0 run-rule victories Thursday and Friday.
“I thought we pitched really well in both games,” Centennial coach Brian Tickell said. “Jacob (Meador) and Brayden (Freeman) were able to pound the strike zone and keep them off balance both days.”
North Side, the fourth-place team from District 6-5A, drew praise from Tickell.
“What I really want to say is congratulations to North Side for making the playoffs for the first time 60 years,” Tickell said.
The Spartans (23-10) open their best-of-three area-round playoff series against Little Elm (16-13-1) today at Justin Northwest. Game 1 of the series is at 7:30 p.m. today. Game 2 is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday. A deciding third game, if needed, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday. The winner of the series will play the winner of series between Fort Worth Arlington Heights and Lake Dallas.
“I’m really excited about the next round and seeing what we can do,” Tickell said.
