Spartans fall into three-way tie
Before Centennial scored its first points Tuesday night, Arlington Seguin had already built a 9-0 lead.
The Cougars made the most of their early advantage to register a 76-53 District 9-5A boys basketball win at Centennial.
The loss dropped the Spartans (16-11, 6-4) into a three-way tie with Crowley and Everman for third place. Centennial plays Friday at Burleson and hosts Granbury Tuesday.
“In this district, you have to come out each night and be assertive and tonight they did that and we didn’t,” Centennial coach Jeff Carroll said. “They jumped on us early and then we had to fight our way back. I was proud of the way my guys kept fighting and never gave up. It’s just tough to do when you fall behind early.”
The Spartans trailed 20-4 after one quarter and, after scoring 22 points in the second quarter, were still down by the same margin at 42-26.
Nate Adcox led the Spartans with 13 points and Anthony Hunter scored 10 points.

Spartans suffer road loss
Playing at Cleburne is always a tough venture and the Spartans had their struggles Friday in a 56-43 loss to the Yellow Jackets.
“Cleburne is a tough place to play,” Carroll said. “They did a really good job of making sure to force us to take tough shots. We will continue to grow, and get better as we finish out the rest of our season.”
The Jackets got out to a fast start, pulling ahead 17-5 after one quarter of play and were able to maintain most of that lead for the rest of the game.
