Spartans finish fourth at first cross country meet
Centennial competed in its first regular cross country meet of the season Saturday at the Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational at Lakeview Camp.
The Spartans finished fourth with a score of 143 after tying with Keller. Centennial lost a sixth-runner tiebreaker to Keller for third place. Keller Timber Creek took first place with 68 points. Mansfield was second (78 points).
The Spartans were led by senior Nick Newby who finished sixth in a time of 16 minutes and 9.7 seconds. Also, scoring points for the boys were sophomore Luke Johnson (28th, 16:56.6), senior Ryan Bergami (37th, 17:15.9), sophomore Hayden Whitehead (41st, 17:21.9) and senior Trevor Pennington (55th, 17:32.5).
Centennial's other runners were senior Andy Shue (70th, 17:52.5), freshman Jackson Hutton (98th, 18:71.1), sophomore Dakota Larabell (104th, 18:25.2), senior Chris Pena (112th, 18:31.4), senior Travis Clark (113th, 18:33), junior Jerry Bransom (114th, 18:33.9), sophomore Michael Dahlinger (142nd, 19:35) and sophomore Rocco Lombardo (150th, 19:43.5)
The Lady Spartans scored 176 points to finish sixth. Keller won the title with 96 points. Canyon Randall placed second (96 points) and Timber Creek was third (123 points).
Senior Caitlyn Cron paced the Lady Spartans, finishing 24th in a time of 20:22.4. Junior Madylin Herrera placed 36th in a time of 20:45.9. Sophomore Kate Moravec finished 46th in a time of 21:09.2.
