Spartans get revenge on Crowley
Centennial’s baseball team gained a measure of revenge at Crowley Friday night as the Spartans behind the pitching of Thomas Santos was a District 8-5A game, 4-1, at Crowley.
The Spartans (17-6, 9-1) kept control of first-place in 8-5A. Centennial was scheduled to host arch-rival Burleson Wednesday night weather permitting and plays at Granbury Friday.
Crowley handed the Spartans their lone district loss and Santos held them in check Friday with a complete game four-hitter. The junior allowed two runs, struck out five and walked four.
Centennial carried over momentum from Tuesday’s 2-1 walk-off win over Aledo by scoring twice in the first inning by scoring a run on an error and Santos RBI ground out.
Crowley closed to 2-1 in the second.
In the sixth, Noah Menchaca opened the inning with a double. After a sacrifice bunt, Devin Paz singled home Menchaca. The Spartans loaded the bases with bunt singles by Blake Birdwell and Adrian Gracia. Andruw McKenzie followed with a run-scoring fielder’s choice
