Spartans headed to regionals
Down a stroke heading into the final day of play at the District 5-5A boys golf championships, Centennial’s Blue team fired a combined 301 to catch and pass Granbury’s Gold team for second place.
The Spartans total of 608 secured them a berth in the Class 5A Region I championships. Granbury’s Purple team won the district title with a two-day 583. Granbury Gold finished third with a 613. Burleson’s boys placed fourth with a two-day total of 644. The top two teams at district head to regionals.
The championships were played at Grand Prarie’s Tangle Ridge Golf Course. The region I championships will take place April 24-25 at the Rawls Golf Course.
“Boys have been close the last two years getting third,” Centennial coach Matt Dunn said. “We finally have the depth and players to overtake Granbury’s B team. All the boys played well both days especially on the back nine. The last day we were two shots ahead of Granbury B with nine holes left and held on to beat them by five.”
