Spartans top Legacy for top seed in 5-5A
With the top seed from District 5-5A in the upcoming playoffs on the line, Centennial called on senior pitcher Jacob Meador to face Mansfield Legacy and he delivered.
Meador was dominating on the mound Saturday afternoon at Everman, tossing a complete-game, two-hit shutout as the Spartans defeated the Broncos, 2-0, to take the top seed.
“We were able jump out in front of Legacy with two runs in the first inning and that’s all Jacob needed,” Centennial coach Brian Tickell said. “That was one of the best games he’s pitched all year and also was one of the better defensive games we’ve played. We’ve preached all year long to finish and that’s what this group did.”
Centennial and Legacy shared the District 5-5A title after finishing with identical 12-2 records. The Spartans (21-10) will face Fort Worth North Side (15-12) in a best-of-three Class 5A Region I bi-district playoff series at Everman. Game 1 is slated for 7:30 p.m. today. Game 2 will be at 5 p.m. Friday with a deciding third game, if needed, starting 30 minutes after the second game.
